HRO standard: safety shoes

In certain sectors of activity, the wearing of specific personal protective equipment is mandatory to evolve in a secure environment. PPE is designed to protect workers from shocks and burns, among other things. Do you work in an environment where you are exposed to high temperatures? Remember to wear a pair of safety shoes or safety boots respecting the HRO standard. Discover more details in this file.

What is the HRO standard?

This standard concerns the resistance of the sole to contact heat, with a temperature of up to 300 °C. When in contact with a floor or surface displaying relatively high heat, safety shoes and safety trainers complying with the HRO standard help keep your feet safe from any risk of burns.

This is an additional standard to the requirements defined by the EN ISO 20345 standard, just like the SRC or WR. Therefore, to guarantee additional protection against hydrocarbons and mineral oils, it can be combined with another standard (S1, S1P, S2 or S3). The perfect combination is to be defined according to the work environment in which you operate.

Jobs requiring the wearing of HRO safety shoes

HRO-standard work shoes are compulsory for trades related to working with hot metals (workers in the metallurgical industry or oil, glass, etc.). They are also perfect for other activities such as road construction, or for trades such as welders, mechanics, heating engineers... However, wearing them is not compulsory for these sectors of activity, shoes respecting the HI standard being sufficient to cope with the thermal stresses experienced by the worker. On the other hand, they are particularly recommended if you have to maintain a sustained work pace in difficult conditions, with a higher or lower ground temperature.

HRO standard shoe models

You will find on the market a wide choice of types of HRO safety shoes, ranging from sneakers with boots, low or high, open or closed, with or without laces… They also come in a multitude of colors and shapes to allow you to be perfectly protected against thermal risks while being stylish. The selection criteria are the same, whether for men's or women's shoes. Do not forget to bet on light shoes, offering good ventilation and having flexible soles to carry out your work in the best conditions.
