Special anti-cold chemical protection gloves - Man / Woman

As the anti-cold gloves are classified as personal protective equipment, they meet a specific norm: EN 511. Here are the main lines required by the standard so that professionals can benefit from the compliance of their gloves against negative temperatures. Note that the gloves must pass three tests to guarantee their resistance to: convective cold, cold of contact, impermeability to water.

                  The convective cold test

Anti-cold gloves are tested with convective cold to see if they have the right thermal insulation properties. To know the result, we measure the transfer of cold by convection. This result is between scores 0 to 4, knowing that 4 is the highest protection score.

                  The contact cold test

This test corresponds to determining the resistance of the material of anti-cold gloves when they come into contact with a cold object. Like the previous test, an evaluation from 0 to 4 defines whether the PPE actually has the capacity for contact cold or not.

                  The water impermeability test

The anti-cold gloves are also tested for their impermeability to water. The process is done in the simplest way: the gloves are exposed to water for five minutes. The notation is this time 0 or 1. If the water does not penetrate the gloves, the test is positive, the result is noted 1 to indicate impermeability. Otherwise, it will be 0.

An EN 511 glove first meets EN 388

A pair of gloves EN 511 responds above all EN 388 standard because it is anti-cold handling equipment. This means that the gloves are not only resistant to low temperatures and waterproof, but also mechanically resistant so that they provide thermal protection against the cold.

Resistance to abrasion and tearing, this is what the EN 388 standard imposes. If the gloves do not meet the respective tests, they do not meet the standard EN 511. It should therefore be remembered that anti-cold work gloves are subject to both EN 388 and EN 511.

However, it should not be forgotten that whatever the specificities of the work gloves and whatever the standards to which they are subject, the basic conformity therefore common to all PPE gloves is EN 420.

Different construction materials for thermal glove to choose from

Each professional has the choice between different materials of anti-cold gloves. He chooses according to his activity, the nature of the environment in which he exercises his profession, the frequency of use, possibly his tastes. Here are some models that effectively resist the choice; their materials are different.

                  Portwest A 140 anti-cold latex gloves

These are latex coated thermal gloves. They are intended for professionals in various fields such as transport, waste collection, construction... They are made of acrylic providing warmth, perfectly suitable for outdoor workers and those who stay permanently in cold environments.

                  Portwest fleece gloves
