What is the outfit to work and how to dress as a pastry chef / baker?

The work clothes of a pastry chef / baker have an important place in the performance of their work. No element should be overlooked, whether you pass the CAP pastry chef or you are already immersed in the trade.

An outfit according to professional requirements - Bakery/Pastry clothing - Men/Women

As a rule, the pastry world brings together several hierarchical functions. Nevertheless, their uniforms (work clothes) are, overall, pretty much the same. In fact, cleanliness and safety are the main reasons why we impose these outfits.

Pastry/baker's headgear

The headgear serves to prevent hair loss or any other impurities and dirt from falling into the preparations.

There are several types:

  1. The hat

The toque is essential in the field of pastry and bakery.

It ensures hygiene and ventilation at head level. Indeed, the height of this accessory is to dissipate heat and curb perspiration. In addition, it indicates the importance of the cook and the ranking of the latter in his field.

  1. The cap

Formerly used only by the military, the kitchen headdress now has its place with pastry chefs/bakers. It is effective in limiting the appearance of your forehead sweat. It is in principle one size, but contains adjustable straps or elastic for your comfort.

At Oxwork, it is available in two colors: black and white depending on the model.

  1. The Charlotte

The charlotte is present in several professional circles, including catering. It is highly recommended because it meets the hygiene standards imposed in the kitchen. Note that the charlotte is for single use. Oxwork offers a set of 100 pieces to equip you daily.

  1. The bandana

The bandana is easy to wear. It is convenient to use in any type of kitchen. Apart from protecting the hair, it adds style to your work outfit. With ties at the back, it is adjustable according to your convenience. Oxwork has a wide choice in relation to the desired bandana cut.

The professional unisex pastry/baker jacket

The jacket plays an important role in safety, because with the high temperature preparations coming out of the oven, this garment will protect you from the risk of burns. In addition, this top adapts perfectly to your morphology, whatever your size. It is white in color and the quality of the fabric is either cotton or polycotton. Moreover, it is available in long, short or three-quarter length sleeves. The snaps on the front allow quick donning and good ventilation of your uniform.

Professional pastry/baker's apron

The kitchen apron goes hand in hand with the kitchen jacket. Its length differs to provide comfort and protection. First, there are the very long aprons that reach the calves called chef's aprons. Then there are the aprons whose length stops at the knees that we call demi-chef. Finally, short aprons that do not reach knee length. The quality of this apron is known for its resistance to water, oil and other materials encountered in pastries or bakeries.

Kitchen/pastry cook/baker work shoes

In the kitchen, putting on kitchen shoes is required because of frequent trips. You won't risk slipping thanks to its non-slip soles in rubber. You have to be careful that the front is covered and very thick in order to protect you from falling sharp objects. The color may vary according to your preference but white is always recommended. At Oxwork, shoes with a non-slip option meet the SRC (SRA+SRB) standard. Visit the site to take a look at the different models.

Pastry/baker's work trousers

The professional kitchen pants in the pastry world and bakery has always been the classic houndstooth. With the evolutions, the latter was gradually replaced by light colored pants. The size should fit snugly. It should not be too big or too tight.

Why wear professional clothing in a bakery/pastry shop and how to take good care of your work clothes?

Your pastry chef / baker uniform must absolutely be impeccable in terms of cleanliness. Be sure to change your apron each time it is affected by humidity. Likewise for your headgear, replace it with a new one before wear and tear leaves marks on the edge.
