Working in extreme conditions such as harsh winter temperatures is not easy if you are not well equipped. Suitable fleece clothing, hats and shoes are among the personal protective equipmentrecommended. What should not be neglected is the foot comfort. They must be kept warm and dry. For workers, socks with specific cuts, materials and compositions are available. The comfort is of course at the rendezvous. As professional activities are exercised throughout the year, socks for mid-season and for summer are also designed to satisfy professionals.
A look at materials: men's socks for winter and summer
The preferred materials for making work socks are:
The coolmax
This is a very technical textile. It is recognized for its characteristic to stay dry. The fabric comes from Dacron polyester fibers, particular for its channels that effectively wick moisture to the outside. The coolmax dries very quickly, it is hydrophobic.
Cotton
Used many centuries before Christ, cotton remains a preferred choice in terms of material used in the manufacture of work socks. Its silky filaments offer a high quality finish. It is a textile that provides comfort. It has absorbent powers and is suitable for all skin types.
The tactel
The tactel perfectly meets the needs of those who pursue a career in sport. This textile combines many qualities: softness, absorbency, control of the body's microclimate and lightness. It is an easy-care and durable material that dries quickly.
Wool
In winter, wool is essential. It has great insulating power and absorbs moisture up to 30% of its weight without becoming wet when touched. Woolen socks for outdoor work ensure optimal foot comfort.
A large number of materials are also used in the manufacture of socks. We can cite silk, lycra, modal, elastane, viscose and many others. But, for models designed specifically for professionals, those mentioned above are the most common. This is due to their absorbent, insulating and breathable capacities, in particular.
Socks: the little story
Like everything, socks have their own story. They find their origin in Syria, 2000 years before our era. Early models featured strips of fabric to keep your feet warm. Then, they become a sign of wealth.
After the Medieval era, socks became accessories in their own right and spread throughout Europe. Cloth socks were a real success, but Henry IV of England and the inhabitants of Rome had a preference for wool. During the 15th century, socks and tights became essential. High-ranking people want them embellished with embroidery.
The first sock knitting machine was built in 1589. However, industrial models cannot compete with silk socks. And the presence of a sock holder to hold them is mandatory, which is later replaced by an elastic. From the 19th century, socks were also accessible to citizens. Women are also interested in seeing more aesthetic models.
For professionals, stylish and practical socks
Socks designed for professional use combine practicality and aesthetics. The choice of cuts and materials is very wide. The parts on the heel, the Achilles tendon and the tip of the feet are often padded for optimal comfort. In order to avoid unpleasant chafing and the feeling of compression, the seams are flat.
Work socks come in bundles at Oxwork. This allows professionals to have the same type and characteristics. There are many brands to choose from and we recognize that there is real competition in terms of the quality and technicality of pairs of work socks.
