What is personal safety equipment (PPE)?
Good protection is necessary and sometimes even mandatory, especially for professionals who exercise jobs exposing them to certain risks. In fact, many tasks simply could not be accomplished without the right personal safety equipment (PPE). Fortunately, PPE that fulfills its role well does not necessarily cost a lot, contrary to popular belief. Low-cost personal safety equipment is currently offered to professionals concerned about their safety and health. And who says cheap does not necessarily mean poor quality!
What are the types of personal protection?
Whether you work in a laboratory, a workshop, a factory or even on construction sites, you need suitable personal protective equipment and this is chosen according to the risks and the areas to be covered. protect. Thus, there are 3 categories of PPE:
Category I includes PPE to protect against minor risks that do not affect vital areas of the body and that will not cause irreversible damage. It can therefore be gardening gloves, aprons for professional use, sunglasses, etc.
Category II, for its part, comprises PPE used to protect against secondary risks such as minor shocks and attacks of chemical or mechanical origin that may affect vital parts of the body and likely to cause irreversible damage. These can be safety shoes, clogs, crash helmets, cut-resistant gloves, etc.
Finally, Category III will protect the worker against mortal dangers. These include, among others, protective equipment against falls from a height such as harnesses, ropes, carabiners, life jackets, respiratory protection devices which protect against toxic gases, chemical-resistant suits or personal protection against noise.
It should be noted that the category of personal protective equipment does not affect the price in any way. Its specificities, the quality of the product and the brand are the factors that make equipment expensive or not. However, be aware that PPE is not a big investment.
Means of protection in accordance with labor standards
Efficient PPE at low cost for the most sensitive areas
The head is probably the area that deserves the most protection and one can be tempted to believe that equipment designed for this purpose can be expensive. Know that this is not the case at all! For little, you can have a kitchen cap, a branded construction helmet or even a more specific helmet (translucent, with neck protection, ventilated, etc.). More aesthetic without being less effective, the bump cap is also offered at a low price.
After the head, there are the eyes and for that you will need protective glasses. Here again, you don't need to invest a lot since you can get them for a very small price, like Portwest Classic Safety goggles. You can also buy offer eyewear with an attractive look similar to classic sunglasses. There is something for everyone.
To protect yourself from noise pollution in certain sectors of activity, hearing protection also called personal noise protection (PICB) is essential. Avoid deafness by equipping yourself with noise-cancelling headphones. More discreet, noise-cancelling plugs which are often offered in packs of 50 pairs, are also a very effective solution.
And since it is the hands that are the most stressed at work, it is normal to protect them well with gloves adapted to your profession in terms of safety equipment. There are thus handling gloves, welding gloves, chemical protection gloves or even anti-cut gloves which are designed to protect the hands from the risk of cuts or tears.
