How to choose the right safety shoes and which type suits you?

This guide from Oxwork.com helps you choose the right safety shoes for your activity, your workplace and the risks involved.

Technical characteristics of safety shoes: patterns and shapes

Safety shoes are PPE (personal protective equipment), which arecompulsory in certain trades, regardless of the type of footwear (basketball, boots, etc.). They must therefore be chosen according to the position and the place of work. Work shoes allow you to escape many risks: chemical, mechanical, thermal, electrical, movement.
You must not neglect this protection, and choose your protective shoes effectively for your own safety.

On the one hand, you should know that there are many safety shoes and that their history is varied. To choose the right pair, you have to know the patterns and shapes that can best suit the needs felt, the characteristics of the shoe, the standards, the use that can be made of it, the quality in relation to the price. On the other hand, various people are attracted to certain brands that are known to the general public, often a guarantee of quality. But it is also good to know how and where to buy your protective shoes.

But above all, knowing your shoe size is essential to be comfortable and do a clean job while being completely free to move. Because it is true that many customers get lost between French and foreign sizes.

Size guide for men and women:

In the vast majority of companies, protecting your feet and wearing safety shoes are mandatory. To provide the best product according to the person, the sector of activity and the work environment, manufacturers have therefore developed different patterns and shapes of safety shoes to make the right choice.

We can notice that there are different types of shoes:

  • A men's safety shoe and a women's safety shoe
  • Safety sneakers
  • Safety boots

Among these different types of protective footwear, we find different shapes, for example high safety shoes with also boots, but also low ones. Some of them are much lighter and more comfortable. Often they have laces, but a few are without laces. The trade in which the worker evolves will strongly influence the choice, this is frequently the case for work shoes.

Safety footwear standards

Indeed, there are several standards to be respected to allow the buyer to find exactly the type of safety footwear that suits him the most. Because they are classified like this for the ISO 20345 standard:

  • S1P: S1 + puncture resistance
  • S2: Outdoor activity / resists and absorbs water
  • S3: S2 + cleated sole / puncture resistant
  • S4: 200 joules protection for the shell / shoes made entirely of rubber or polymer / antistatic properties / resistant to oils and hydrocarbons / energy absorption of the heel and closed back.
  • S5: S4 + cleated sole / puncture resistance.
