Founded in 1904, Portwest is an Irish brand known for the design and manufacture of personal protective equipment and professional clothing. It relies on technology to shape products that comply with European standards. To support you in your activity, the brand offers a wide choice of work gloves.
Why wear work gloves?
Whether you work in handling, chemicals, welding, agri-food, construction, or green spaces, it is important to arm yourself with PPE for your safety and well-being. In general, gloves offer protection against the risk of aggression, such as abrasion, tearing, magnetic waves, flame, radioactivity or infection. These work accidents mainly concern the mechanical, electrical, thermal and scientific fields.
How to choose your work gloves?
To choose a work glove, you have to determine the tasks to be done. Heavy handling includes heavy work and requires wearing an ultra-resistant glove. For light work that requires dexterity and precision, heavy-duty gloves are needed. Precision gloves are suitable for fine handling.
The choice of manufacturing material varies according to two criteria:
- The work environment: For protection against the vagaries of nature, it is necessary to bet on gloves adapted to humidity, heat, grease, oily residues or electric current.
- Risk identification: this influences the choice of standards for the glove. The EN 388 standard is made for mechanical risks, EN 388 and 381 for conventional or chainsaw cutting, EN 511 for cold, EN 407 for heat, EN 12 477 for welding, CE 60903 for electricity, and many others.
Portwest uses quality materials to design professional gloves. For this, she chose:
- Leather: the type of leather is essential. In lambskin, it is flexible, but not suitable for precision work. Bovine leather is more resistant, while goat leather is a compromise between resistance and flexibility.
- Cotton: alone or mixed with polyester or synthetic fibers, this material offers great absorbency and high breathability. The cotton fibers provide great flexibility and resist well to traction, torsion and high temperature.
- Latex: it has great extensibility thanks to its elastic properties. This material is known for its resistance to wear, tear, detergents, alcohol, as well as water-based products. It is 100% waterproof.
- Nitrile: It offers protection against hydrocarbons, oils, acids, greases and dangerous chemicals. With good elasticity, it is resistant to cutting, abrasion, perforation and snags.
- Neoprene: Very flexible, it has a much appreciated tactile quality, impermeability to gases, humidity and vapour. It is resistant to chemicals, to hot thermal conditions (between 95°C to 150°C). Likewise for the cold, it can withstand down to -25°C.
- PVC or vinyl: it has chemical and mechanical properties.
- Polyurethane or PU: It combines flexibility, finesse and breathability. This material resists abrasion well.
Models of Portwest work gloves
The Portwest brand highlights gloves adapted to meet the needs of professionals in various sectors. Each model is offered at an excellent price/quality ratio.
